Bengaluru: Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that the prospect of implementing a National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the state is currently being discussed.
Speaking to ANI, Bommai said, “Talks are ongoing for the implementation of NRC in the state. Karnataka is one of the states where a lot of people from across the border are coming and settling down because of which there are a lot of issues. We are collecting all the information. We will discuss with the Union Home Minister and then go ahead.”
It can be recalled that Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya had also urged the Central Government to implement the NRC in the state.
Furthermore, Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari had made a similar demand while claiming that “dangerous” illegal immigrants had settled in Delhi.
Recently, Indian Home Minister Amit Shah had said that Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Parsi and Christian refugees would be given citizenship and that the government would not allow any other “infiltrator” to reside in the country.
