Bengaluru: In a shocking incident, an elderly woman was smothered to death on Wednesday morning.

The deceased is identified as Rajam (66), a resident of BEML layout.

A gang of 4-5 men are suspected to be involved in the crime. They would have murdered the victim for personal gain, police said.

The preliminary report suggested that the incident occurred when the victim was about to go out for a morning walk.

It is not yet clear whether the assailants were known to the victim or not, as there were no signs of resistance found on spot.

RR Nagar police have registered a case and are investigating.
