Bengaluru: Illegal assets to the tune of 9.5 crore have been unearthed by the Lokayukta police in the raids conducted on 18 premises belonging to eight public servants in Bengaluru, Bagalkot, Belgavi, Mangaluru, Mysuru and Ramanagaram districts here on Thursday.
Of the 9.5 crore, A N Thyagaraja, chief engineer (Communication and Buildings), Public Works Department, Bengaluru, was in possession of illegal assets worth 3.95 crore, ADGP Prem Shankar Meena said.
Thyagaraja, who joined PWD in 1983, draws a salary of 53,850 a month. He has assets worth 5.88 crore. This includes a house valued at 60 lakh at Yelahanka, a site in Kammanahalli worth 13 lakh, a commercial complex in KR Puram worth 29 lakh, and a flat and site worth 26.50 lakh, a flat at Nagashetty Halli worth 2.21 crore, a commercial building at Sadashiva Nagar worth 26 lakh, land at Kundanahalli village valued at 1.29 crore and land at Jakkur worth 84 lakh. The raid team was led by SP Sonia Narang.
Assistant Sub-inspector of Police G Jagadeesh, East Police Station, Channapatna, who is posted at Bidadi police station, possesses illegal assets worth 1.14 crore. Jagadeesh, who joined as ASI in 1984, owns houses and sites in Uttarahalli, Raghuvanahalli, Bengaluru South, and has land in Kanakapura taluk.
According to sources, Lokayukta police also raided premises of Assistant Engineer R Mallikarjun, Nayanegali, Town Development Authority; Manager A Nagaiah, Karnataka State Co-operative Marketing, Bengaluru; Accountant Sidharth Bhupal Shingadi, Chikkodi; Accounts Superintendent Krishna Mahadevappa Karmadi, Public Works, Ports and Inland Water Transport Department, Belagavi; Range Forest Officer Balakrishna M, Sampaje, Madikeri; Assistant Director, Kannada and Culture Department, Mandya, K N Annegowda.
Cases were registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act against the officials.
