Bengaluru: With state Assembly elections round the corner, the Central Election Commission has decided to adopt a creative publicity system to create awareness among voters about their rights.

Interestingly, the election commission has approached dignitaries from varied fields, who can exert considerable influence on people instead of using film stars. According to sources, the EC had on a previous occasion, used a film star as its publicity ambassador to create awareness among voters. However, he didn’t cast his ballot on the day of the election and hence the CEC has decided to exercise extra care this time.

Prominence would be given to sports stars or sports persons who won in Para-Olympics. The print and electronic media advertisements, this time around will be completely different from the traditional government style used earlier, and will be attractively designed, said sources.

Furthermore, the Election Commission has decided to print awareness messages on the backside of receipts generated at “Bengaluru One” and “Karnataka One” centres. There are 140 “Bengaluru One” centres in the city and 45 “Karnataka One” centres in the state. In both the centres, an average of one lakh receipts are distributed each day, said the election commission sources. The EC is also considering using other government receipts for this purpose.
