DySP Kallappa case: VHP leader to be booked under Goonda Act

Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Wednesday that Praveen Khandya, the Vishwa Hindu Parishat (VHP) leader who is one of the five suspcets in the suicide of Chikkamagalur Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Kallappa Handibag will be booked under the Goonda Act.

Speaking at the Legislative Assembly, the CM said that the government had sufficient evidence to book Khandya under the Goonda Act (the Karnataka Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Bootleggers, Drug-Offenders, Gamblers, Goondas, Immoral Traffic Offenders, Slum-Grabbers and Video or Audio Pirates Act). Khandya has as many as 32 cases pending against him.

Siddaramaiah further said that the CID is investigating the case and will take action against everyone involved in the case. He also pointed out that the government will examine the possibility of offering a job on compassionate grounds to Kallappa’s wife, but there was no provision to give compensation to the kin of officers who commit suicide.

Bail plea hearing put off

Praveen Khandya’s anticipatory bail plea hearing was put off by the District Sessions Court at Chikkamagaluru in the abduction case of H M Tejas involving DySP Kallappa Handibag to July 16. Khandya is still absconding. Hi wife had moved anticipatory bail plea through advocate A Ravindra.
