Bengaluru: The State government has failed to act tough against foreigners who are staying illegally in Bengaluru after the expiry of their visa, said Union Law Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda here on Friday.
After meeting the family members of Shabana Taj, who lost her life in the hit-and-run incident on Sunday, which prompted a mob to attack on a Tanzanian female student and her friends on Sunday, he said that the law and order situation in the city had deteriorated so much that people are afraid to walk out at night and locals are being harassed by the police.
He also alleged that some students from abroad are guilty of illegal activities and rowdyism instead of using the facilities for their betterment.
When people took offence to his statements, the minister took to Twitter to clarify his stand saying that he condemned both the accident and the attack on the student and her friends.
Soladevanahalli, where the two incidents took place, comes under Gowda’s constituency.
