Bengaluru: The drug which landed Russian tennis ace Maria Sharapova in trouble at the Australian Open was found at three venues at the all-India inter-university wrestling championship in Mysuru in January.

The event organized by  the University of Mysore and the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), had athletes self-medicating meldonium (mild ronate) to give an excellent performance. Syringes and vials with Russian labels were found at the venue.

After initial denial, AIU Rajendra Singh Khatri, said that there would be a complete investigation. No action seems to be taken yet and AIU claimed that it had asked the National Anti-Doping Agency to conduct dope tests.

The Russian drugs found at Mysuru are not available in the Indian market, but Meldonium and other drugs can be ordered online.
