District administration seizes illegally stored sand

Mangaluru: Around 500 loads of sand stored illegally near Manjalpade, Mudusheede in Kavoor police station limits was seized in a raid conducted by Dakshina Kannada district officers of Mines and Geology department on Saturday January 13.

Speaking to Newskarnataka, Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil informed that they raided the area was having received a complaint. Nearly 500 loads of sand stocked in government land and also in private patta land was seized during the raid.

As per directions from the district administration a case has been registered against the concerned person and other suspects involved in sand stocking in Patta land.

“A case has been registered under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 22(1), 153, 553of IPC sections,” DC told.

DC also added that there is a provision in the law, to use seized sand for the governmental works. Hence the sand is being shifited for the work of NH in Shiradi Ghat after paying the royalty.
