Bengaluru: The state government is contemplating handing over management of the Indira Canteen to religious institutions like Dharmasthala, ISKCON etc. This has been decided in order to eliminate corruption.

According to the authorities, the state government has already started a consultation process with the multi-stake holders.

“The state government is spending a huge sum on these canteens, where food is served to the poor at a subsidized rate. But it is being reported that there is a lot of corruption in the management. That is why it is being contemplated to hand over the scheme to religious organisations,” informed sources.

According to the authorities, as these religious institutions already have experience serving food to the masses, the state government wants to hand over management of the canteens to them.
