Bengaluru: The designation of ‘Deputy Commissioner’ may be changed to ‘District Collector’ in the state. Revenue Minister R Ashoka said that a proposal in this regard will be sent to the Chief Minister soon.
Addressing the reporters, Ashoka said that several states in the country have District Collectors, but Karnataka has Deputy Commissioners. Hence, it has now been decided to change the designation to District Collectors.
“We will discuss with the CM soon and decide in this regard,” he said adding that only the designation will be changed, while the profile and functioning of the DCs will remain the same.
Cabinet Expansion
Clarifying that there is no confusion with regard to the cabinet expansion, Ashoka said that all the promises made when rebels embraced the party will be fulfilled.
“They will be made ministers. The cabinet expansion will happen after the arrival of the CM from Davos. The CM will hold a meeting with BJP National Chief JP Nadda,” he said.
Anti-Superstition Act
The Minister clarified that astrology will not come under this Act.
“Astrology is a proven science, hence this subject will not be under the Act, Having said that, I must clarify that action will be taken against astrologers who force people to perform superstitious acts in the name of astrology,” he said adding that the BJP had opposed the anti-superstition law of Siddaramaiah because he had merged religion in it.

Taking a dig at former chief minister and JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy, Ashoka said that the JD(S) and Congress leaders are the ones who have kept immense faith in astrology.
“Everyone knows the kind of love that former prime minister H D Devegowda and family has on astrology. If we ban astrology, H D Kumaraswamy will be devastated,” he said adding that even Congress leader DK Shivakumar is in Madhya Pradesh to perform some havans.
