Bengaluru: Pre-University Lecturers’ Association will carry out a protest against the fresh circular issued by Department of Pre-University Education Department Director announcing the beginning of PU classes from May 2. The decision is unanimous, without any discussion, the association alleged.

In a press release, Karnataka State Pre-University College Lecturers’ Association President Thimmaiah Purle said, “Director says that first PU exam finished on February 21 and students had a leave of 69 days, but lecturers didn’t get any holidays. So, we requested them to begin classes from May 28, but they have rejected our proposal.”

There were second PU exams since March 18. Later, until April 11, there was second PU answer paper valuation work. Since April 28, supplementary examinations were conducted for first PU students. Its result will be published on May 2, he explained.

Before cutting down the holidays like this, the matter should be discussed with education experts, public representatives and lecturers’ associations. Without this, the director unanimously ordered about the holidays, he alleged.

It will have an adverse effect on quality of education and students, he warned.
