Bengaluru: Now from March 1, tourists arriving in namma bengaluru via air, will receive a mini brochure at the airport. The Wanderer’s Maps, created by Dekkoh, a city-based travel start-up comprising local artists, writers and techies, intends to make travellers see the city through the eyes of a local.
Supported by the Ministry of Tourism, these unique free all-in-one maps will be given to tourists at visa-on-arrival and immigration counters of international airports in New Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai and Mumbai as well.
The Maps contain several tips which will help a tourist blend better. Never say ‘Kannada gothilla’ or Sachin is better than Rahul. Support the Bangalore Football Club; tickets are cheap, jerseys are cheaper and fans get free egg puffs.
These useful tips will be doled out to tourists arriving at the Kempegowda International Airport from March 1, along with route maps, local lingo, transport and accommodation options, eat-outs and hangouts, all in one colourful mini brochure that aims to impress about ‘Incredible India’.
Bitten by wanderlust, engineering graduate Aditya Chalasani and corporate lawyer Varun Thomas Mathew founded Dekkoh, which has roped in a group of illustrators, content writers and local people who source information for them.
So far, the group has 12 members.
“We are both avid travellers and could find such products easily abroad. There is too much information available and we wanted to make this as brief as possible for visitors to India and offer as much local experience as possible,” says Mr. Chalasani. The result is a splash of colour and the most relatable characteristic of the city at first glance – a beer mug for Bengaluru, a pot of biriyani for Hyderabad, and a temple for Chennai. “New Delhi is work-in-progress,” he adds.
What’s next is a mobile application and a possible expansion of the colourful maps to more cities.
