Davanagere: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Saturday November 26 that the Supreme Court petition Maharashtra filed in 2004 over the border dispute has no legal validity.
Speaking to the mediapersons, Bommai said that Karnataka is ready for a legal battle. According to the State Reorganisation Act of 1956 and Article 3 of the Constitution, Maharashtra’s plea doesn’t have legal validity, he said. Karnataka is arguing well with senior advocates Mukul Rohatagi and Uday Holla.
He further said, “We are going to argue seriously when the issue comes up for hearing. Justice Shivraj Patil, a retired judge from the Supreme Court, has also been appointed by the government as the commission’s head for state border and river formation. We are acting in accordance with the Constitution and the law of the land, and that is enough to ensure our victory. Karnataka won’t lose any villages, towns, or cities,” he added.
He said that the former Chief Minister of Maharashtra has been playing politics with the border dispute for many years in response to senior politician and NCP leader Sharad Pawar’s efforts to keep it alive.
