Bengaluru: Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation Chairman S A Hussain said that tourism had got a boost after Dandeli in Uttara Kannada was declared as the favourite wildlife destination in India on March 31, 2016.

Dandeli has been named as India’s favourite wildlife destination during the recent HolidayIQ’s Better Holiday awards. For the first time a holiday destination in Karnataka has been awarded by people’s choice and not decided by jury. Tourists rated the place based on hospitality, affordability, connectivity, activities and location.

Hussain said that more places in Karnataka needed to be improved.

As the activities at Bandipur, Nagarhole Tiger reserves and Kabini were limited, people didn’t prefer them for the award. There are a lot of visitors in the three places every year. But the connectivity of Dandeli to Goa and wildlife safari, trekking, birdwatching, adventure sports and water sports is the reason why people preferred to vote for it, said Hussain.
