Bengaluru: Home Minister G Parameshwara on Saturday inaugurated a cybercrime police station, which will function out of the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner’s Office, exclusively for Bengaluru city.
There was a police station on the same premises but it was catering to the city as well as Bengaluru rural district. Similar stations have been planned for other districts too.
The new station has 12 personnel, including an inspector, and has already registered nine cases pertaining to online cheating and defamation.
The Minister said a database was being created to monitor people from other countries residing in the State despite expiry of visa. “Educational institutions have been asked to report to police stations as and when foreign nationals join a course,” the minister said.
After inaugurating the cybercrime police station, the Minister handed over 62 bikes and over 7 kg of gold jewellery, stolen from different parts of the city over the past three months, to their owners. The total value of the goods returned is over Rs 2 crore.
