Bengaluru: The State Cabinet, on Tuesday, has taken a major decision to improve the health services offered at government hospitals at district headquarters by approving a proposal for purchase of modern diagnostic equipment including CT Scanners and MRI scanners.
Briefing media persons, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs T B Jayachandra said the proposal would cost Rs103 Crore to the state exchequer. “The purchases are being made as a part of the government programme to provide best diagnostic services for poor patients free of cost,’’ Minister Jayachandra said.
The Cabinet has offered a New Year gift for thousands of SC/ST students studying vocational courses in Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). They would be distributed free shoes and socks from the coming academic year. The students would also get free kits.
The Cabinet has also cleared the proposal for purchase of 133 buses under the National Urban Renewal Mission (NURM)-2 for city transport services in urban areas including small towns like Tumakuru and Shivamogga.
Other important decisions of the Cabinet are: To build 195 bridges at an estimated cost of Rs 1395 Crore to improve connectivity to highways; construction of 820 metre long tidal break-wall at Karwar port; to set up a modern planetarium with 3D projection at an estimated cost of Rs 22 Crore and to build a toll road at a cost of Rs 148 Crore between Devanahalli and Kolar.
