Bengaluru: The Bengaluru-based startup entrepreneur Mudit Dandwate who lost his left arm in a crocodile attack on Sunday will have a prosthetic arm in two months, said a senior doctor.
“A prosthetic arm will be made for Dandwate in two months at our prosthetic unit,’’ Hosmat Hospital Director and Chief Orthopedics and Joint Replacement Centre Dr. Thomas Chandy said. Dandwate and his female friend along with two dogs took a plunge in the Thattakere lake adjacent Mahadeshwara temple, situated 38 km from the city centre on Sunday morning.
Smelling food and sensing some movement in the still waterbody, a crocodile attacked them around 7.30 am. The reptile grabbed Dandwate’s left arm and tried to pull him inside the water. His friend screamed for help and four forest department officials, who were perambulating the area, saved them out. Dandwate’s left forearm was chewed off by the crocodile.
The forest staff rushed him to Sagar Hospital on Bannerghatta Road, after which he was shifted to Hosmat Hospital for specialised treatment. “His left arm below the elbow is completely damaged in the crocodile attack. He will have a prosthetic arm in two months,’’ Dr Chandy said.
On Monday, Hosmat Hospital doctors attended the victim and done debridement to remove the dead tissues. “A surgery was performed today on the patient and the wound is closed. He is recovering,’’ the doctor said.
The victim, an IIT alumnus hails from Nagpur and runs a healthcare startup at Indiranagar in Bengaluru east suburb. He had gone trekking in a forest area near Thattakere lake in Ramanagara district with his female friend.
