Bengaluru: The Centre has allocated Rs. 150 crore to the Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) for augmentation of research and test facilities on the Bengaluru campus.

The funds will be used to augment high-voltage test facilities, refurbishment of a generator at HPL Bengaluru for sustaining testing and prolonging the life, and refurbishment of short-circuit test facilities for testing of distribution transformers. Apart from this, their facilities at Bhopal and other centres will also be enhanced.

The augmentation of test facilities for electrical equipment enables testing of equipment as per the latest standards, which in turn will enhance reliability of power system network. Upgrading non-destructive test facilities will enhance consultancy activities at thermal power stations, states the budget document.
