Bengaluru: Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) chairman Balachandra Jarakiholi has urged the milk producers and customers to get ready for tough decisions as over 10 lakhs liters of milk per day remains unsold every day.

“I am holding discussion with 14 district union presidents soon on the way forward. The federation is facing labour shortage and raw material shortage. There is no market for milk due to the COVID-19,” he stated.

According to the sources in the KMF, every day over 70 lakh liters of milk is supplied to the federation.

“Around 40 lakh liters of milk and curd is being sold. A total of 15 lakh liters of milk is used to produce milk powder, 5 lakh liters of milk is used to produce other products. Around 10 lakhs liters of milk has no takers,” informed sources in the KFM.

Due to the lock down, the KMF is not able to supply the milk to other states.

“All these are adding to the problems of the federation,” explained a senior officer.
