COVID-19: Karnataka announces lockdown in nine districts till March 31

Bengaluru: Corona scare has gripped Karnataka and with this lockdown has been announced in nine districts across the state including Dakshina Kannada till March 31.

It may be recalled that the number of Corona Virus confirmed cases hit 21 on Sunday with a man from Dharwad tested positive.

Along with Dakshina Kannada district, the lockdown will be witnessed in Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Kalaburagi, Mysuru, Kodagu, Chikkaballapur, Dharwad and Belagavi districts.

During the lockdown essential services such as groceries, milk, medicine and health care will be available. All commercial set ups will be closed.

Bus services will also be suspended, including inter-service buses between six districts.

The ‘Janata Curfew’, which bagged outstanding response will end by 9 pm on Sunday and within next 12 hours Section 144 will be put in place, informed a press release from the state government.

State had earlier cancelled the SSLC examinations and also sealed  inter-state border. Karnataka has a common border with Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Kerala, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Telangana.
“People living in cities and towns have been advised not to visit their villages in the state or other states,” the CM had announced on Sunday morning.

Earlier, all state governments were issued orders allowing only essential services in about 75 districts across the country. It was decided at a meeting here on Sunday morning with chief secretaries of all states by the cabinet secretary Rajiv Gauba and the principal secretary to the Prime Minister P K Misra, reported IANS.
