Bengaluru: A trip to Nandi Hills turned fatal when a woman and her husband fell off the beautiful yet dangerous cliff-side, on May 1. The Husband survived the tragic incident while his wife did not. Her body was found 350 ft below around 21 hours after the incident.

The couple – M Kumar (53) and J Sunita (50) – from Hassan, were in Bengaluru visiting their relatives. On Tuesday, the couple decided to take a trip to the scenic hills some 60 kms from the city.

The couple was seated near a rocky place behind Mayura Hotel late in the evening. When Sunita rose to leave with her husband, one of her slippers got free from her foot and as she bent down to retrieve it, she lost her balance and slipped, Kumar was quoted telling the police. As she fell, she let out a terrified scream. Kumar tried to save her and managed to grab a hold of her arm but, he too lost control and they both tumbled into separate gorges. Kumar got caught between boulders and sustained head injuries resulting in him losing consciousness.

Upon regaining his senses, Kumar made his way back to the hotel and informed the staff about the incident, who immediately informed the police at the Nandi Hills outpost.

Police used a drone camera from Chikkaballapura on the morning of May 2 and located Sunita’s lifeless body by 4 am. Her body had landed among the shrubbery near the Muneshwara temple.

The police have ruled out foul play, citing that the husband’s injuries are consistent with his version of the events.
