Bangalore :In a re-run of the auto sting operation, traffic police collected over Rs 8.65 lakh fine for offences ranging from reckless driving to speeding to using mobiles.
The Bangalore Traffic Police were at it again. They followed up their sting operation on Auto Drivers with one Taxi Drivers. The operation ran for 48 hours on Monday and Tuesday and booked 8200 cab drivers for a gamut of offences ranging from reckless driving and over-speeding, to using mobile phones while driving and jumping traffic signals. Thirty two vehicles were also seized during the drive and a total fine amount of Rs 8.65 lakh was collected.
Nearly 500 traffic policemen from both divisions took part in the drive. Traffic policemen formed teams and gathered in tech corridors and hot-spots in the city. Many of them were in mufti, pretending to be passengers. They lay in wait at busy junctions and routes where cabs that pick up and drop techies normally ply like Malleswaram, Rajajinagar, Jayanagar, Basavanagudi, Koramangala, ITPL, Whitefield, Outer Ring Road, Old Airport Road, Indiranagar, and Marathahalli.
The Offences – Not wearing seatbelts, not following lane discipline, driving too fast or recklessly, having tinted windows, using the high beam inside the city, talking on the phone while driving, parking in no-parking zones, refusing hire and demanding excess fare from passengers.
