Bengaluru: CM BS Yediyurappa will rename the Yalahanka flyover as the Veer Savarkar flyover, today at 12 noon. This renaming ceremony was cancelled twice due to various reasons.
This flyover connects west Bengaluru with Devanahalli road. This will make the Yalahanka dairy circle signal free.
It was constructed at the cost of Rs.43 crores. This 800 feet fly over has four lanes.
Originally the renaming ceremony was planned on May 28. However, as the BBMP didn’t approve the proposal of renaming it, th event was postponed. Later it was decided to hold the renaming ceremony on September 1. This time, it was postponed due to the demise of former president Pranab Mukherjee.
Various Kannada organisations are opposing the naming of the flyover after RSS idealogue Savarkar and are pressing for naming the structure after any local hero.
They are blaming the RSS for forcing the state government to name the flyover after Savarkar.
