Consumer court bites computer major ‘Apple’ to satiate aggrieved consumer

Bengaluru: A child right activist won a long battle against compute major “Apple” after the consumer court ordered Apple to pay Rs 35000 as damages for supplying a defective laptop in 2013.
Neena P Nayak, child right activist based in Malleshwaram had purchased a laptop from Apple in November 2013 and the laptop started malfunctioning repeatedly. The consumer had made a payment of 1713 Australian dollars towards the purchase. The laptop under international warranty was serviced after eight months of purchase during August 2014. The laptop stopped functioning within four days again. Consumer Neena had sent 17 mails since then and Apple never bothered to respond to any of them.

When Neena ran out of options, she approached the consumer court seeking justice and claimed Rs 2.4 Lakh in damages from Apple. The consumer court after running through all the details connected with the case, and asked Apple to pay Rs 25000 as damages towards the supply of defective laptop and Rs 10000 extra towards the hardship faced by the consumer after purchase.
