Bengaluru: Congress-JDS Coordination Committee Chief Siddaramaiah has decided to convened a meeting of the Congress Legislative Party on September 25, specifically to tackle the issue of possible cross voting in Legislative Council by-elections, considering the fact that rumours are rife about the BJP making attempts to topple the coalition government by luring MLAs.
The bypolls to fill three vacant seats in the council is all set to be conducted on october 4. The meeting ahead of the polls has hinted that the Congress is fearful of the possibilities of its own members shifting loyalties.
The Congress has been in news over the last few weeks as Jarkiholi brothers started dissent and warned of quitting the party. It is said that BJP has made several delightful offers to the angry Jarkiholi, including DCM’s post to one of the influential Jarkiholi brothers.
MLA Anand Singh from Bellary too had received calls from the BJP, it is said and Siddaramaiah is also believed to have spoken to Singh and in continued effort to keep the government strong, Siddaramaiah is believed to urge his men to stay loyal to the party during the meeting.
Meanwhile, the Congress will also reportedly decide the names of the candidates for the council bypolls. MC Venugopal, UB Venkatesh, Nivedith Alva and Naseer Ahmed are the names that are making rounds as of now.
