Bengaluru: The Congress’ State election committee, which is set to meet in Bengaluru today (Monday, March 26), is expected to finalise the party’s candidates for at least 110 seats before it is sent to the central election committee in New Delhi. According to party sources, the committee will discuss party’s candidates for all the 224 seats but may finalise list of candidates for about 110 to 130 seats.

“The central committee is meeting for three days from March 29. Party president Rahul Gandhi has also asked the committee to finalise the list and send it before the New Delhi meeting,” sources said, adding that the party’s first list is likely to come out in the first week of April.

The 43-member State election committee, which is headed by Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President G. Parameshwara, has Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and other senior leaders as members. The party has received more than 1,000 applications seeking tickets.

Sources said that while all the seven Janata Dal (Secular) rebel MLAs, who quit the Assembly and joined the Congress, are likely to get tickets from their respective constituencies, some sitting Congress members are likely to be denied re-nomination.
