Bengaluru: Nearly a year after former state chief minister S M Krishna joined the BJP, breaking his almost 50-year-old association with the Congress, it is now rumored that the veteran leader is likely to rejoin the parent party.
Krishna, it may be recalled had switched loyalties as he was disappointed with the Congress party for sidelining him while taking important policy decisions. His joining the BJP was viewed as a strategic boost for the saffron party, which is trying to regain power in Karnataka, in a bid to expand its footprint in Southern India.
While then efforts of senior Congress leaders to persuade Krishna to reconsider his decision had failed, it is now learnt that KPCC President Dr G Parameshwar and minister D K Shiva Kumar have already held first round of talks with the veteran leader, whose absence from the BJP’s electoral campaigns has raised several questions.
Congress president Rahul Gandhi has given his nod for Krishna’s re-entry into the parental party, said sources and added that the leader was disappointed as the BJP too overlooked assigning him any important role.
This apart, Krishna’s expectation of a party ticket for his daughter had been unmet and the IT raids at his son-in-laws place were among the other factors that led the leader to rethink his association with the BJP, added the sources.
The leader, however has not commented on the issue or over his unhappiness with the BJP.
