Bengaluru: Largest marketplace of Bengaluru, KR Market is all set to ban all kinds of plastic from April 2.

Following the government’s notification on plastic month last month, the traders have decided to go for alternatives and have joined hands with the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to eliminate the use of around 1,000 kg of plastic every day.
KR Market has one of the largest flower markets in Asia and uses 500 kg of plastic every day with the vegetable market following behind.
G M Diwakar, President, KR Market Traders’ Association feels that the ban would lead to the reduction of garbage problems.
“Most of the traders are ready to abide by the ban. Those who don’t fall in the line will be fined from April 3. We will be putting up banners and distributing pamphlets warning traders against use of plastic,” he said.
