Bengaluru: State Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was visibly upset over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “delay tactics” in resolving Mahadayi issue.
Speaking to reporters on November 10, the chief minister recalled a recent State Assembly proceeding where unanimous resolution was made seeking Modi’s intervention in resolving the inter-State row over sharing of the Mahadayi river water.

The chief minister had also written to the prime minister seeking his intervention and requested the state BJP leaders to mount pressure on the PM over the issue. He criticised the state BJP leaders for their ignorance on the federal system and their lackadaisical approach in pursuing state’s interests with the central leadership.

Expressing displeasure over deferring the meeting on account of the parliament session the chief minister said, stance taken by the Centre does not augur well for good Union-state relations.

Siddu recalled an earlier instance and said former prime minister Manmohan Singh had provided Rs 1500 Crore towards drought relief when B S Yeddyurappa was the state chief minister and had not sought any details on the money spent.

The Centre is duty-bound to provide financial assistance to states in need as per the 14th Finance Commission recommendations, CM reminded.

It is gathered that the prime minister’s office had failed to give time and appointment to the state delegation led by the chief minister citing the ongoing parliament session.
