Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the socio-economic survey report, popularly known as the caste census report, being prepared by the Backward Classes Commission will be made public soon.

Keep vigil on those indulging in criminal activities, CM tells police-1Disclosing the details to reporters on April 16, Siddaramaiah said that he had already held a discussion with Karnataka Backward Class Commission officials and they had agreed to finalise data at the earliest.

The Commission is compiling data of two districts-Bengaluru Urban and Rural Districts. Once the Commission submits its report, the State Government will disclose the details to public, CM confirmed.

With the Assembly polls due next year, the Congress government is contemplating providing reservation commensurate with the population based on outcome of the caste census.

There is a demand to increase the reservation in proportion to the population and he too is keen on this. He said he was awaiting the release of the socio-economic survey report to take a final call.

Caste census was first prepared in 1931 and reservation was done based on it. With increase in the population, the caste dynamics have changed. The Congress government ordering for a Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) aims to ascertain the impact of reservation benefits and also know how many are still deprived of it. Once the SECC report is released, steps would be taken to increase the reservation commensurate with the population,” said CM Siddaramaiah.

With the Assembly polls slated for mid next year, the Congress government is contemplating providing reservation commensurate with the population based on outcome of the caste census-a move to swing a large chunk of Ahinda ( minorities, backward communities and Dalit ) votes in Congress party’s favour.
