Bengaluru: Since last one week, lakhs of Twitter users from the state of Karnataka especially from Bangalore city who were keenly following the activities of Chief Minister S Siddaramaiah on social media were in utter confusion. These users numbering around 3 lakh were surprised to see few funny tweets from one of the tweeter accounts having user name CmofKarnataka. Moderator of this profile ID was, for some time, tweeting in support of various projects of the union government and retweeting the tweets of few RSS activists. Even though few raised questions about these, their queries went unanswered leading to some speculations.

But nearly 15 days after this development, on Monday, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) finally acted on this issue and has come out with a clarification. This clarification confirmed that an unknown Twitter user misused his account to dupe millions of people.

According to the sources in the CMO, the official Twitter account of the Chief Minister of Karnataka is https://twitter.com/CMofKarnataka. But since last 15 days an unknown person created a duplicate Twitter account in the name of https://twitter.com/CmofKarnataka. Even though the official Twitter account of the chief minister was verified by Twitter itself, a duplicate account was allowed with just a small change in the username. The general public who were not aware of this minute mistake started to follow the duplicate one too. As a result, the fraudster easily duped them and tried to harm the reputation of the CM.

Meanwhile on Monday, the duplicate Twitter account of the CM has been deleted after an official complaint by the state government.
