Bengaluru: As State Assembly elections have been declared, political and other advisors appointed for the Chief Minister and other ministers including the advisor of the Home Ministry Kempaiah cannot be continued, said Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sanjiv Kumar.

Responding to the objections raised by the opposition parties on the issue, here in a press conference, he said, “I will act on this. Political and other types of advisers cannot continue as per the rules.” Both the BJP and the JDS had objected to Kempaiah interfering in the service of police officers.

Once the election model code of conduct is in place, the government can not make any appointments. However, there are complaints of appointing vice chancellors for two universities in hurry. The issue will be investigated, even the Governor cannot release any order regarding the appointments, he said.

“After the declaration of elections, ‘Badoota’ incident of Chikkaballapura, transporting Rs.7 lakh at Honnavar without any documents and MLA A S Pateela Nadahalli issue have come to our notice. We will file a complaint and take stringent action,” he added.

Meanwhile, regarding MP Shobha Karandlaje’s request to hold the decisions taken in last two cabinet meetings by the state government, Sanjiv Kumar said that the EC can take action only if it receives particular complaints.
