CM BSY extends transport facilities for migrant workers till Thursday

Bengaluru: Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has said that the transport facilities provided by the state government to ferry migrant workers back to their native villages has been extended till Thursday.

Initially, the state government had planned to run this facility till Tuesday, May 5, however, it has now been extended by two more days.

The CM said that on Sunday alone at least 30,000 workers had been sent back to their homes in 951 KSRTC buses and on Monday morning 50 KSRTC buses ferried at least 1500 workers. About 16,500 workers were taken back to their homes on Saturday from the state.

As many as 550 KSRTC buses have been earmarked in Bengaluru while 400 other buses have been set aside only to ferry migrant workers in other cities.

On Sunday, two trains had chugged off to Patna in Bihar and one to Ranchi in Jharkhand and one to Bhubaneshwar in Odisha with migrant workers.

On Monday again, two trains have left to Bihar and Jaipur.

Free food and drinking water was provided to all the workers before they embarked on their journey, stated a press release from the CM’s office.
