Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced Rs 25 lakh compensation to the family members of Lance Naik Hanumanthappa Koppad who was declared dead in Delhi’s RR hospital on Thursday, after being pulled out alive from an avalanche in Siachen.

Several ministers paid their final tributes to the deceased brave soldier as his corpse landed at Hubli airport.

“It is a great loss to the country and I condole the role of Hanumanthappa. We are issuing a financial compensation of Rs 25 lakh to his family members,” Siddaramaiah said.

The unfortunate news of death came on Thursday afternoon, after the team of doctors released a statement declaring Hanumanthappa dead due to non-response of brains and other vital organs in his body.

Due to six days of frozen environment, blood failed to circulate within Hanumanthappa’s body, leaving his brain de-oxidised.
