Bengaluru: A division bench of the Karnataka High Court, headed by chief justice,  DH Waghela, yesterday warned BBMP engineers and officials in charge of DJ Halli area, east Bengaluru, of withholding their salary if it is convinced that they have failed to discharge their duty.

This came after the court noticed that despite cleaning work undertaken by the authorities following a directive issued on March 12, the locality continued to be unhygienic.

The court was told by the civic agency’s counsel that BBMP staff had actually worked in ward number 47 (DJ Halli) and the photographs produced were of the neighbouring ward.

At this juncture, the bench wondered whether BBMP officials need a direction from the court to discharge their normal duty.

RTI activist P Uday Shankar and others filed a PIL citing that BBMP has failed to clear encroachments on roads and clean storm water drains.
