Civic body bypolls in Belagavi, Hubballi-Dharwad, Kalaburagi to be held on Sept 3

Bengaluru: The Karnataka State Election Commission announced on Wednesday August 11 that elections will be held on September 3 for the City Corporations of Belagavi, Hubballi-Dharwad, and Kalaburagi, as well as bypolls for a few other urban local bodies.

The statement said that counting of votes will take place on September 6 and the model code of conduct will come into effect from August 16. There will be elections for a total of 252 wards in seven urban local bodies.

Belagavi City Municipal Council (58 wards), Hubballi-Dharwad City Municipal Council (82 wards), Kalaburagi City Municipal Council (55), Doddaballapur City Municipal Council (31), Tarikere Town Municipal Council (23), Bidar City Municipal Council (2), and Bhadravathi City Municipal Council (2) are among them (1).

Candidates can file their nomination till August 23 and they can withdraw their papers till August 26.  

A total of 14.01 lakh people are eligible to vote, including 8.11 lakh in Hubballi-Dharwad. According to the Commission, elections are being held because the terms of some of these local bodies have come to an end, as well as due to orders from the High Court.
