Chemistry question paper leak: CID arrest two more

Bengaluru: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) police on Monday nabbed two more people in connection with the Pre-University chemistry paper leakage. The CID police have identified the accused as K Nagendra and Thimme Gowda.

According to a press release from the CID, the accused K Nagendra and Thimme Gowda hail from Mysuru and are registered with Bengaluru University for PhD. While Nagendra opened Intellectual Correspondence Coaching Centre at Nagarbhavi in Bengaluru, Thimme Gowda is an accomplice of Shivakumaraiah, the kingpin of PU Chemistry question paper leak scandal.

The police sources said that Nagendra wanted to secure PhD in biochemistry while Thimme Gowda has registered his name for PhD in Economics. With the arrest of Nagendra and Gowda, the number of arrested in the PU Chemistry question paper leak scandal has increased to ten.

It may be recalled that, CID officials recently raided 11 private colleges in the state and among them, six are in Bengaluru. The CID sources claimed of having seized incriminating documents that link these colleges to the PU chemistry question paper leak.

It was said that the CID police conducted raids on the 11 colleges based on the information provided by the three accused K M Muralidhar, Anil Kumar and K S Ranganath who were taken into custody on April 13. The police sources said the kingpin Shivakumar and his son Dinesh are still on the run.

The PU Chemistry exam was postponed twice – March 21 and 31, and later conducted successfully on April 12. Several organisations, including students’ unions, staged protest in front of PU Board demanding strict action against the culprits. They also demanded the resignation of Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Kimmane Ratnakar for the PU Chemistry question paper leak.
