Central government releases Rs. 395 crores to the state to take up flood relief works

Bengaluru: In a big relief to the cash strapped Karnataka, the central government released Rs.395 crores under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to take up the flood relief works.

This amount will come in handy to take up the flood and rain relief works across the state. The state government estimated around Rs.400 crores loss this year due to the flood, landslides and rain.

According to the sources, the 15th finance commission estimated a loss of Rs.791 crores in the state due to the natural calamities. This will be the advance release to take up the emergency works.

In Karnataka, the state government estimated a loss to the tune of Rs.4,000 crores due to the rain and related incidents. The state government sought the center’s assistance to take up the relief works.
