Cauvery water row: Congress MPs stage dharna

Bengaluru: Congress MPs led by Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha on Thursday staged dharna in front of Mahatma Gandhi statue on the premises of Karnataka State Assembly demanding the intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in sharing of Cauvery water between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

Mallikharjun Kharge said the Supreme Court’s direction to the Centre to constitute Cauvery Water Management Board would be another setback for Karnataka. “We do not want the Centre to constitute Cauvery Water Management Board. We demand Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene in Cauvery water dispute between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu,’’ Kharge said.

Congress MPs such as D K Suresh, K C Ramamurthy, Rajeev Gowda,K H Muniyappa and others participated in the dharna. They shouted slogans against the Supreme Court’s directive to Karnataka to release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu. They also shouted slogans demanding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention in Cauvery water dispute.
