Cauvery violence: Deceased Umesh gets Rs 10 lakh compensation

Bengaluru: Umesh killed during Cauvery violence in Hegganahalli area of Bengaluru on August 12 will be paid Rs 10 lakhs in compensation, said home minister G Parameshwara.

Disclosing the details the home minister said Rs 5 lakhs will be paid from the state government and the balance 5 lakhs will be paid from the chief minister’s relief fund.

The family had refused to accept the initial compensation of 5 lakhs declared by the government and the Bengaluru DC Shankar too had failed to convince the family members to accept the initial compensation amount of Rs 5 lakhs.

The deceased Umesh was shot by police in their attempt to control the violence while he was returning home from work. The bullet pierced through his back and entered the lever zone. He succumbed to his injuries later in Laxmi multispecialty hospital.

Doctors performed post mortem on August 13 forenoon and the body being sent to his native place Kunigal near Bengaluru for last rites by an ambulance. Police will escort the body and the family members will accompany the body in a separate vehicle.

It may be recalled, Umesh aged 25, and resident of Singenahalli was shot  by police while he was on his way home when violence erupted in Hegganahalli area. The family members were seen weeping tirelessly near the deceased’s body. Umesh married two years ago, has a young child.

Meanwhile Pro-Kannada organizations like Jayakarnataka, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) and Nagrahavu film team have offered to help the deceased’s family.
