Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday left for Delhi to hold talks with Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti on Cauvery water dispute. It may be recalled that a few days ago Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking an appointment with him, but the former did not receive any response to the letter.
According to reliable sources, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had advised the BJP leaders from Karnataka to discuss the Cauvery issue with Union Minister for Water Resources. The sources said the BJP leaders had appealed Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to meet the Union Minister for Water Resources to discuss about the difficulties in releasing Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.
Earlier, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah met former chief minister S M Krishna and explained about the prevailing situation in the state in the wake of Supreme Court’s recent interim order on Cauvery water dispute.
Later, the Chief Minister, accompanied by PWD Minister H C Mahadevappa and Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs T B Jayanchandra, met Governor Vajubhai Vala and requested him to convene the special session of the both Houses of legislature on Friday to discuss the Supreme Court’s latest order on releasing Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.
