Bengaluru: With the Supreme Court’s final verdict on the Cauvery dispute scheduled for Friday, the State Cabinet met here on Thursday and took stock of the law and order situation in the State.

According to sources in the Cabinet, the Cauvery issue dominated the meeting which lasted over two hours. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is said to have summoned the Director General of Police and directed him to step up security and take adequate precautionary measures in the Cauvery belt from midnight.

A senior Minister said the State was optimistic of getting about 30 tmcft to 40 tmcft more water than the 270 tmcft that Karnataka was awarded by the Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal. “With the State budget also slated to be presented on Friday, the government is concerned about the fallout of the judgement,” the Minister said.
