Bengaluru: In a shocking incident, three persons, including two women, sustained severe injuries when a car in which they were travelling plunged from a 15-feet high flyover and fell on the service road below, at Raithara Santhe junction in Yelahanka on Kempegowda International Airport Road during the wee hours of Wednesday.
The police have identified the injured as Varun Jain, 35, Rachita Reddy, 23, and her sister Chitra Reddy, 25. They were admitted to a private hospital.
According to the police, Varun, a resident of Lavelle Road, was returning home from the airport, along with two of his friends. As soon as the car went on the flyover, Varun, who was driving, lost control and rammed into the parapet, causing the car to plunge below. The car was badly damaged.
“Fortunately, there were no other vehicles on the service road at the time. Otherwise, the impact would have been bigger,” said a senior police officer.
A few cab drivers, who were passing by, pulled out the injured and shifted them to a hospital and alerted the police.
The trio sustained multiple fractures, but were out of danger, the police said. They are waiting for them to recover from their injuries to question them and ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
The police said Varun had gone to the airport, with his friends, to pick up his father. However, due to some miscommunication, he could not locate his father who then boarded a taxi.
