Bengaluru: The central government has stopped LED bulb supplies to the state due to technical reasons, Energy Minister D K Shivakumar announced.
Speaking to reporters in the state capital, the minister said the central government had given in writing over stoppage of LED bulb supplies to the state due to technical reasons.
Accordingly, the state government has temporarily suspended the supply of LED bulbs to consumers at a discounted rate and will resume only after Centre streamlines supplies.
Despite lower water levels in the state’s dams compared to last year due to deficit rainfall, power supply to farmers, students and businesses will not be affected, stated Minister D K Shivakumar.
He assured of taking suitable measures to prevent power cuts and said demand for power varies from 8300 MW to 9300 MW everyday in the state.
Each household was provided with five to 10 LED bulbs for about Rs 100 each as against the market price of 400 per piece The initiative has the potential to conserve around 1,400 million units per annum which is equivalent of the state’s power consumption for a week, Minister Shivakumar had said before launching the scheme during the end of year 2015.
