Cabinet panel decides to split BU into four

Bengaluru: Bangalore University is to be split into four as per a decision of the Cabinet subcommittee on the subject taken at its meet on Thursday.

Minister for Health and Welfare U?T Khadar, who is also on the panel, said, “A decision to split the university into one existing university and three new universities was taken at the meeting. However, this decision will need the approval of the Cabinet.”

If this plan falls through, the BU will be divided into North, South and Central, in addition to the existing university at Jnanabharthi.

Presently, around three lakh students are under the BU with around 650 colleges in five districts.
