Bengaluru: The state Cabinet on Friday approved the Karnataka Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Bill-2015 to implement its plans to trifurcate the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). The bill will be tabled for approval in the forthcoming special legislature session on Monday.

The bill came under intense debate in the Cabinet, with ministers from not only Bengaluru, but from outside too presenting their views both in favour and against the proposal.

However, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra claimed the Cabinet had unanimously decided to press ahead with its plans for trifurcation and to move the bill in the legislature session. “Trifurcation is inevitable to provide good and efficient governance for Bengaluru city,” he said.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah discussed the BBMP elections issue with Bengaluru city MLAs. He also appealed to them to get ready to face the civic elections if the High Court directs the state Election Commission to hold them before May 30.
