Bengaluru: A 21-year-old brain dead patient’s organs were harvested on Saturday. A green corridor was created by midnight and the patient’s heart was taken from BGS Global Hospitals near Kengeri to Narayana Health City on Hosur Road.

R Santhosh(21),a photographer by profession, met an accident on March 17 near Hosur. He was shifted to BGS Global Hospitals from a hospital he was initially admitted. He had suffered severe head injuries and was not responding to treatment. His father Rajanna agreed to donate his son’s organs.
On Saturday, BGS Global Hospitals declared him brain dead. His heart was transplanted to a patient at Narayana Health City, his liver and kidneys were transplanted to patients at BGS Global Hospitals. His corneas were sent to Narayana Nethralaya.
To help the cause, a car instead of an ambulance was used to transplant the organs through a green corridor. Dr Julis Punnen, transplant surgeon from Narayana Health City, took the heart in a car to save time.
