Bengaluru: With most of the commercial establishments reopening and business activities getting back on track, the BMTC has also witnessed a huge surge in ridership. According to the authorities, the daily average ridership has now touched the 14-lakh mark.
Prior to the COVID-19 outbreak, this number about around 35 lakhs.
According to BMTC sources, 4,500 buses are being operated now. “The daily revenue is around one crore rupees. However, it is less compared to the expenses,” the sources added.
It can be recalled that till a few months ago, the ridership was below 1 lakh, causing a huge revenue loss for the BMTC.
Meanwhile, even the KSRTC is witnessing a surge in ridership following the removal of restrictions.
