Bengaluru: The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) which is incurring huge operational losses following the launch of full-fledged services on Green and Purple Metro lines now has started talks with various technology firms over providing last mile feeder connectivity to their employees.
As per the proposal, BMTC has agreed to provide feeder services via newly inducted Midi buses till the gates of MNCs from the nearest metro stations. Companies should bear the cost of the service.
According to the BMTC officials, even though feeder service is not aimed at operational profit, the corporation is considering launching demand-based services to various destinations. “Now BMTC is considering launching various dedicated services to IT companies located in Electronic City and Whitefield areas which could be easily connected via Purpleline,” explained an officer.
“BMTC officials have already held couple of round of talks with the company logistics officers. They are also very positive about the project,” he explained.
According to the sources in the BMTC, following the launch of full-fledged services on Greenline, BMTC has lost around 1.5 lakh commuters per day. “Daily loss in the revenue could be pegged at around Rs 20 Lakh to Rs 25 Lakh,” he added.
