BMTC bus catches fire; narrow escape for 30 passengers

Bengaluru: A BMTC bus with 30 passengers going from Kundalahalli towards Kadugodi caught fire on wednesday, November 25. However passengers had a providential escape after  the alert driver parked the bus noticing smoke coming out of the engine and evacuated the passengers on time. The incident occurred at 11am on the ITPL Main Road.
Reportedly some panic-stricken passengers jumped out of  the windows to rescue themselves and traffic movement was stopped for sometime.

Muniswamy, a security guard at a private firm, heard the commotion. Within a few minutes, the bus was covered with thick smoke. “I realised that there was going to be a fire and and called the control room,” he said, adding that passers-by helped passengers get down from the bus.

The Kadugodi police rushed to the spot and called Fire and emergency service personnel

Speaking to sources, an fire official said, “There was a spark in the battery, which led to the fire. By the time fire fighters doused the fire, the entire bus was gutted.”

Based on a complaint filed by the driver, the Kadugodi police have taken up a case and are investigating. The police have sought the help of the FSL team.
